How To Declutter Your Home Before A Spring Cleaning

Spring is here and you know what that means: It is time to get your home ready for a spring cleaning! We know how overwhelming it can be to manage everything in your house. You are not alone. Decluttering is an important process to do before you begin spring cleaning, it will make things easier thus looking better in the end.

There are several decluttering methods you could work with and you should choose the one that works best for you. If you have never tried decluttering, you could follow our tips.
The tips below are based on what we know from the KonMari Method by Marie Kondo, along with some other tips that could be helpful:

1 – Visualize
This is the simplest way to start everything. Are you doing it because you want to live a clutter free life or be able to enjoy more your free time instead of having to organize your home all the time? Think about how you want your home to look after you are done and the reason behind decluttering.

2 – Do it by category
One most common mistake is to organize it by room instead of category. If you start out by room, you might find that you kept clothes somewhere else and you would have to work on those again. So we recommend starting by category.
It would be easier if you follow an order similar to this: Clothes, books, paper and then miscellaneous items. Then try to divide them into sub-categories. Such as Clothes: – Tops – Bottom, or by the season.

3 – Love it or not?
It is time to get rid of the things that you do not need any longer. In order to accomplish this step you need to feel the object. Grab the item in your hand and think: Do you love it? Does it spark joy and bring you happiness? If your answer is YES, then keep it.

4 – Organize it
After using the method explained above with every category, you should end up with a huge discard pile. When you are done with discarding, it will be easier for you to find the right place for the things you are going to keep.

5 – Give yourself some time
Decluttering is a long process that requires time and attention. Save yourself from frustration and do not expect to be done with the entire process of decluttering your home in one day. Do it at your own pace, do not rush things. Once you are done, you will be able to maintain this for a longer period of time.

Now that you are done decluttering and organizing, it will be easier to move forward with the cleaning process. This is where we come in play.
